Social Impacts of Left/Right Hemishere Imbalance
Sociologists and neuroscientists agree that this imbalance found most particularly in Western countries can lead to many of the social ills we are experiencing today.
Tools and Methods To Reinstate Balance
Academics
Increase emphasis on courses that include art and music.
Teachers
Encourage intuitive and creative thinking.
More Nature Less Nurture
Japanese forest bathing, or “shinrin-yoku,” is a practice of immersing oneself in nature, particularly forests, to promote relaxation and well-being through mindful engagement with the environment, often involving slow walking and sensory awareness.
Daily Activies
Stay Socially Active. Practice Performing or Visual Arts. Practice Mindfulness & Meditation.
Intentional Tools
For example, experiment with binaural beats. This involves presenting slightly different frequencies to each ear, are sometimes used to potentially enhance specific brainwave activity, and some proponents suggest they can promote right-brain function, potentially leading to increased creativity and cognitive development.
Neuro Technology
Balance by visually stimulating our right brain hemisphere. It has been scientifically proven that the Flow Machine strenghtens our right brain hemisphere.
Signs of Societal Imbalance:
The majority of Western societies have become left brain dominant. Left brain dominance can lead to a range of negative effects that impact both individuals and society as a whole. These effects include:
- a continual state of war
- decline in life expectancy*
- disconnection from the natural world
- a loss of self-identity
- spiritual homesickness
- decline in “happiness” *
- rampant drug abuse
- increased social discord and division
- growing inequality
- perceived need for U.S. dominance on the global stage
- the weakening of cultural values
- an overwhelming bureaucracy
- the breakdown of community bonds
- declining educational standing
- declining creativity scores
- reduced emotional intelligence
- decadence
- and sadly much more
Changing Our Educational Paradigm Can Help
Western countries, and in particular the United States, have been steadily slipping in the global educational rankings for decades now. In the US, the “core curriculum” was introduced in 2009 in an effort to create a consistent set of learning expectations in English language arts and mathematics for K-12 students across the United States. This increased focus on left brain education to the detriment of right brain education (music, art, etc.). A paper by James Wilson discusses this phenomena, and offers a potential reason for our decline and a possible solution.
Neurotechnology
Binaural beat inducing devices are just one example. Binaural beats, which involve presenting slightly different frequencies to each ear, are sometimes used to potentially enhance specific brainwave activity, and some proponents suggest they can promote right-brain function, potentially leading to increased creativity and cognitive development.
Our Flow Machine also falls within this category.
Virtual Learning
Virtual Flow Machine
We are working on a video that will allow you to access the benefits of the Flow Machine virtually. Although it is not as potent and less convienent, it will give you an idea of how the physical model works and its potential benefits. Watch this space!
